AROMAZ has allocated 1 hectare for research and development of native cocoa plants from the region, to recover this highly valued and ancient variety.

We also provide training to small producers and cooperatives of women producers of Fine Aroma cocoa.

Origin: Scientific evidence, including DNA analysis on starch remains, dating back 5,300 to 5,500 years, making it the oldest evidence of cocoa use in America.

Mayo-Chinchipe Culture or Ancient People: It was established that this culture used cocoa in their daily life, evidenced by ceramic and stone bowls found in the Palanda canton

Cradle of Cocoa: This discovery positions the Ecuadorian Amazon, and not Mesoamerica, as the center of origin of cocoa culture.

National Cocoa / Cacao Nacional: The cocoa from this area is related to the Nacional Fino de Aroma variety, valued worldwide.
